How we helped
In response to an urgent plea from Adrian Laing on behalf of his 15-year-old daughter, Adrianna, who suffered severe burns, the Jamaica Association of Massachusetts (JAMA) stepped forward to support the family during their time of need. Adrianna received care at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Boston, where she underwent multiple corrective surgeries.
The Jamaican diaspora came together in a remarkable show of solidarity—providing housing accommodations, transportation, meals, entertainment, and financial support. JAMA also partnered with the Coalition of Jamaican Organizations (COJO) and other diaspora leaders to host a successful fundraiser on the family’s behalf.
In the spirit of “filling the barrel” for their journey home, JAMA, COJO, and other diaspora organizations helped provide household goods and essential items to assist the Laings as they return to Jamaica to rebuild and restore.
This outpouring of compassion and unity is a true testament to the heart of the diaspora and the enduring strength of the Jamaican community.
